Karen McGuire is the CEO of BioMendics, LLC and works closely with the BioMendics team to ensure successful product development while providing substantial business opportunities to its investors. Dr. McGuire is a biomedical engineer with a doctorate in cellular & molecular biology and is focused on pharmacology and the development of natural products, proprietary molecules and liquid crystal biologics for cancer, orthopedics, wound care, metabolic and inflammatory diseases. She has authored and co-authored several publications and patents with several patents currently pending.
Robert Hurwitz grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. and graduated from the Bernard Baruch School of Business at CCNY in 1965 with a BA Degree in International Trade. In 1969 Mr. Hurwitz moved to Cleveland and started Incentive Consultants, Inc., a sales incentive company, the first of many Cleveland-based companies he would develop or co-found over the years. Incentive Consultants was eventually purchased by a subsidiary of Cook United, Inc. a publicly held retailer and distribution company. Bob went on to become the President and CEO of their hard-goods division. In 1979, Bob and two partners started Professional Housewares Distributers, Inc., which became one of the nation's largest housewares and small appliance distributers.
In 1987, Mr. Hurwitz co-founded OfficeMax, Inc where he was the founding Chairman and CEO, taking a leadership role in building it into a national chain of office supply stores, which was subsequently sold to K-Mart. Mr. Hurwitz is also a founding owner of the Coral Company, which over the last 24 years has grown into a full-service real estate development, construction facilities, office buildings and residential communities. In 1996, Mr. Hurwitz founded Homeplace, Inc. which grew into a national chain of 100 home furnishings superstores. Homeplace went into reorganization ans was eventually sold.
Since 2001 Mr. Hurwitz has been engaged in assisting other entrepreneurs to develop their ideas and businesses, including Cardinal Commerce, Inc., a leading online authentication service. He currently serves on the Leadership Council of the Ireland Cancer Center and the Leadership Council of The Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute and Clinical Research Program. He is a past Chairman of the Board of the Center of Partnership Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital of Chicago, which has since been sold. Mr. Hurwitz is a member of the board of Trustees of the Jewish Community Federation of Ohio and a Founding Chairperson of Growing and Strengthening Cleveland. He is also a 25-year member of the Visiting Committee of the Weatherhead School of Business at Case Western Reserve University.
Mr. Hurwitz and his wife Susan live in Pepper Pike and have two married children and six grandchildren all living in the Cleveland area.
Mike Kessel, MBA
Mr. Michael Kessel, MBA serves as a Director at Heart and Stroke Foundation Ontario since 2010. Mr. Kessel is President and CEO of Cleveland Clinic Canada, where he oversees the operations of the Canadian facility, as well as program development, medical staff recruitment and operational efficiency. Previously, Mr. Kessel was co-founder and vice-president of business development and finance for the Center for Partnership Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital /Trio Health in Chicago. In this role, Mr. Kessel was instrumental in the development of a network of executive health and wellness programs with leading medical centers throughout the United States. The program was ranked one of the top in the country by Forbes and Fortune magazines. Mr. Kessel was finance manager and then interim finance director for Cardinal Health Medical Products and Services, a manufacturer of medical, surgical and laboratory products in Illinois. He also was co-founder and chief financial operations Officer for Ignition State Group, LLC, a Web strategy and development firm based in Chicago.

Beno Michel, MD
Dr. Michel is member of the Scientific advisory board for BioMendics where he provides his vast knowledge in the field of dermatopathology. Dr. Michel graduated from the University Geneva and completed a fellowship in dermatology at the Mayo Clinic. He is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology and Assistant Clinical Professor of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University. He was the previous director of the dermatology division of University hospitals. He founded the Cutaneous Pathology & Immunofluorescense Laboratory and created the Michel Transport Solution for immunofluorescent testing of tissues in human and veterinarian medicine (acquired by Ameripath in 1996). He also founded Michel Skin Care Enterprises, Inc. and developed a specialty line of creams and lotions based on peanut oil as a source of Linoleic Acid, over 30 years ago. He is also the past president of The American Society of Dermatopathology, The Cleveland Dermatological Society, The Ohio Dermatological Society and The Academy of Medicine of Cleveland (AMCNO).
William Eaglstein, MD
Dr. Eaglstein is a member of the Scientific advisory board for BioMendics where he provides expertise in dermatology, dermatologic animal models, the development of dermatological products and FDA regulatory compliance. Dr. Eaglstein is a medical graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia. After an internship at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn he completed his dermatology training at the University of Miami. He is a past professor and chairman of dermatology at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Miami, where he is currently chairman emeritus. Since 2004, he has worked in industry at Ivax Pharmaceuticals (President of Ivax Derm), Teva and Stiefel Pharmaceuticals (VP Scientific Affairs including Pharmacovigilance) and Stiefel a GSK company (Vice President of New Product Assessment and External Research). He is currently an independent consultant and serves as a member of the NIH Clinical trial review committee for NIAMS and as a volunteer for the Stanford School of Medicine SPARK program. Dr. Eaglstein has been a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow, Chairman of an FDA skin advisory panel and on the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Advisory Panel. He continues his interest in health and regulatory policy and serves on an NIH committee reviewing clinical trial grant applications.
Dr. Summers is the Director of Clinical Development for BioMendics where he provides his clinical insight and drug development experience to improve patient lives. Dr. Summers is Professor Emeritus of the Northeast Ohio Medical College where he served as Chairman of the Department of Urology for more than 20 years. Dr. Summers is also one of the founders of BioMendics, has over 250 scientific publications and continues to be active in medical research.
Chun-che Tsai, PhD
Dr. Tsai is the Director of Research and Development for BioMendics. Dr. Tsai is one of the founders of BioMendics and is an Emeritus Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Kent State University where he served as Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry for 37 years. Dr. Tsai has been an active researcher in molecular/drug design and the development of natural products, proprietary molecules, liquid crystal compounds and mixture formulations for wound healing, antiviral, antibacterial and anticancer therapy for thirty years. He holds 4 patents and has over 100 scientific publications.
James Jamison, PhD
Dr. Jamison is one of the Founders of BioMendics and is a Cell Biologist focused on the development of natural products or combinations of natural products as well as proprietary molecules for wound healing, antiviral and antitumor therapy. Dr. Jamison co-discovered autoschizis as well as the use of vitamin C and K3 combinations in wound healing, orthopedics and cancer. He is also the co-author of 7 patents.
Howard Bobrow, JD
HOWARD BOBROW is a business and transactional lawyer in the firm’s Business & Finance practice group and is a member of the firm's Executive Committee. His practice is primarily devoted to mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital.
Howard is a trusted advisor to private equity funds, venture capital funds, and emerging growth companies. He counsels private equity and venture capital funds and other institutional investors, as well as angel investors, on all aspects of acquisitions, dispositions, capital formation, and private placements.
Howard has a wide range of experience with structuring and closing a myriad of early-stage and growth-stage capital formation transactions, including technology validation, technology transfer, technology licensing, seed investment, early-stage investment and follow-on investment transactions.
He also represents private equity and venture capital funds in connection with their organization and formation, the fundraising process, governance matters, investments in portfolio companies, and compliance with the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Investment Advisers of Act of 1940.

Thomas Brainard, JD
BioMendics has retained the firm of MacMillan, Sobanski & Todd, LLC, as IP counsel to BioMendics. Thomas D. Brainard is an attorney of counsel to this firm. Mr. Brainard has 30 years experience in intellectual property, including more than 20 years within a Fortune 500 diversified healthcare company. He has handled a diverse mix of global patent work, from basic patent preparation and prosecution to complex due diligence investigations, opinions and counseling clients. He brings strategic vision, a business skill set and competitive focus to BioMedics, LLC’s IP projects, giving consideration to the management of patents and trademarks as business assets, and developing an IP portfolio for maximum return. Mr. Brainard has worked in many scientific disciplines, including: pharmaceutical and chemical compounds; formulation technologies both pharmaceutical and nutritional; medical and diagnostic devices, methods, and instrumentation; materials science; and solar cell technology. He also has extensive experience in drafting agreements such as patent and technology licenses, materials transfer agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other contractual transactions.
Anthony Tuccillo, JD
Mr. Tuccillo currently provides business related legal assistance to BioMendics, LLC. Mr. Tuccillo has been an attorney for 30 years and specializes in business and contract law. He has a dedicated clientele of business and medical professionals and is also a certified public accountant.
